OK, it’s a bit of a stretch to say the V-Tex “reverse microwave” beverage rapid cooling system is travel-related – for now. But mark my words, in five years one of these doohickeys is going to be in every five-star hotel room and hostel common room.
The idea was to invent something for retail and home use that would make running all those giant, electricity gobbling refrigerators unnecessary. And that’s obviously a good thing. Yay the environment! But if they’re being honest, I’ll lay odds that the inventors were thinking “gnarly man cave accessory!” when they hatched this idea.
In just 45 seconds, it rapid-chills beverages to 5° Celsius (41° Fahrenheit), including whole champagne bottles, wine glasses and, most important of all, cans of Strongbow cider that I just bought and want to drink right now because I’m dying of thirst and it was a long week and I rode the stationary bike for 30 minutes and I used the stairs instead of the elevator and just shut up and give me my cider.

It does look like a handy gadget for the game room. It will not replace my regular refrigerator, as I generally keep it stocked with food. It will alleviate my embarrasment when I have guests and did not thing to have some homebrewed beer or cider already in the fridge chilling to offer guests and would save on ice at parties. All in all good call! So what does it cost and where can I get one?
Hey Lisa – The video suggests this is still in the concept/prototype phase. But since it’s obviously genius, I imagine we’ll both own one of these babies in the near-middle future.
