Per their website: “Skateistan is a non-profit organization using skateboarding as a tool for empowerment.” Opened in Kabul in 2009, the program is for youth ages 5-18, roughly 40% of whom are girls. They also do work in Cambodia.
Why skateboarding? Because in Afghanistan girls can’t ride bikes. But, in the most brilliant loophole in forever, they can skateboard!
