Watch video of a skateboarding school program in Afghanistan… for girls

This is so disarmingly cool I can’t even summon the strength the be snarky.

Per their website: “Skateistan is a non-profit organization using skateboarding as a tool for empowerment.” Opened in Kabul in 2009, the program is for youth ages 5-18, roughly 40% of whom are girls. They also do work in Cambodia.

Why skateboarding? Because in Afghanistan girls can’t ride bikes. But, in the most brilliant loophole in forever, they can skateboard!

The classroom footage is nice and all, but the awesome skateboarding starts at 1:15.

Skateistan runs on donations.
