Hey, have been all over Romania, but didn't know about the club in Suceava, will definitely check it out next time I am there :)

And yes, parking has become a problem, I got my car picked up in Brasov. It was illegally parked, true, and the guy at the office where I paid the fine confirmed that they are picking up cars that have license plates from other cities than Brasov, since in that case, you will not have a vote agains their mayor at the next elections:)

Everyone is into the parking rules...

We parked in a legal car park which has somewhere in some office just been reregistered as a road junction... no signs to say don't park... and the next thing I knew I had to pay 200 Euros and 3 points on my licence for parking on a junction... oddly they completely ignored all the cars under the clearway signs as this would create disruption to the traffic!

Fantastic sounding trip. I might expand beyond Iasi on my next Moldova run for some of this!

...great news about wi-fi also. Rather than lugging around a notebook, I recommend the Nokia n810 as the perfect balance of portability, usability (Skype- and Bluetooth-ready, with GPS too), and top-notch wifi sniffing. They've been around for a couple of years now, so prices are way down (about $150), and a bargain at twice the price.

On a return journey to Cluj from Timisoara my Romanian girlfriend and I took a detour to Hunedoara after she heard good things about the castle from a friend of hers. Unfortunately we got there at 3:55pm and they were closing at 4, so we couldn't get in. (This was in the first week of January this year. Not exactly high season.) Doing a lap around the outside, which we were probably not allowed to do, was kind of fun though. The place was completely deserted, and the castle is really impressive from the outside at least. We then went to a restaurant that was equally desserted, and had this funny atmosphere that I've only ever experienced in Romania. A big, empty space. All in all it was a good day. :)
