"Rickrolled"? You just invited yourself to getting Rickrolled more. You need to get out of your downtown condo in the skyway more. You need to drink something stronger than the girly drink that is Strongbow more.

Stilts are pretty common for houses in low-lying areas, especially those frequently affected by tropical storms, hurricanes, and monsoons. In the Eastern U.S., most of the beachfront properties are on stilts (or piles), although these are usually disguised by enclosing the space between ground and floor with trellis or fence.

Water levels rise quickly not only through heavy rainfall, but also because of the pressure created by hurricanes and monsoons. A Class 3 hurricane can cause the ocean level to rise over 10 feet -- commonly caused storm surge. If your house is on the beach, and the sea rises 10 feet, you don't have a house anymore. But if it's on 10 foot stilts, and the sea rises 10 feet, you're likely to fare a little better.

Thailand also gives off that smile a minute feel. Sad to see all that drama happening there, but I'm sure the locals are coping well with it. They have the positive attitude going for them. I'm sure if you ask about the situation the response will be: same, same, but different.
