I pre-ordered your book and will be notified when it arrives at my local Barnes and Noble! Learned a travel tip from your recent posting, when I’m in Romania and in a bind in public places, I’ll be sure to visually scan the area for queues.

Thanks for the steer on BUG — there are hostels in parts of the Midwest where I’ll be traveling with my daughter this summer, but none have reviews, so maybe I need to check them out and write something up.

Wow, thanks for the plug Leif.

Yes BUG was the first hostel review website, and we never let hostels write their own description and we are working towards having every hostel on earth on the BUG website. That’s all true and I appreciate you getting the word out.

However I would like to clarify one point. You give the impression that BUG’s reviewers will personally review every hostel. We will probably get to around 40% of all hostels within the next couple of years and keep these hostel reviews up-to-date but it will be a long time before every hostel on Earth has been reviewed by our own reviewers (although every hostel will be online for travellers to write their own reviews). To start with we will focus on having our own reviewers review all the hostels in the most visited destinations. So in the future you can expect to see BUG reviewed hostels in big cities like Amsterdam, Berlin or Rome but not Timmins, Ontario or Buttcrack, Arkansas.

Anyway, it’s great to have you on the BUG team and I hope your witty prose will inspire more people to travel.

but the authors of the lonely planet guides aren’t mentioned anywhere,are they?i would know ’cause everytime i check the romania guide of 2001 and think”the guy who wrote this was on heavy medication AND should be beaten mercilessly”,well i looked all over to find a name with no luck!

Congrats! But I fear for your “reputational safety” on Amazon. There are no reviews up yet, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before we’ll see the typically helpful Amazon.com gems with headlines like:

“Missing half of the country”

“The guy who wrote this should be beaten mercilessly”

“I’d say use it as toilet paper but the writing’s so bad it would give you hemroids”

I, for one, will look forward to your pithy responses!
